Dragonfly Publishing's Barklay & Eve books are a series of stories by Karen
Carney, featuring two dog characters that help to explain and answer many
serious questions children have about life, death, sickness and health. The
Barklay & Eve books are a very high-quality, oversized, easy-to-read
laminated soft cover book series ($7.95 MSRP) for children with such
valuable information in explaining the difficult life situations that
children, unfortunately, may encounter at a young age. The fundamental
reason for the books is to be a source for parents to openly discuss
difficult topics with children through the loveable, caring nature of third
person canine characters. Adults are encouraged to read along with
children, making the books an aid when talking to children about sensitive
subjects. All of the proceeds of the sale of Barklay & Eve book go to the
D'Esopo Resource Center, which helps support children and adults of all ages
through the grieving process.
Barklay and Eve, the inspiration for the series, are Portuguese Water Dogs,
the actual pets of author and illustrator, Karen L. Carney, a Registered
Nurse and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As a recipient of the American
Cancer Society's Lane W. Adams Award, Carney has earned national recognition
for clinical excellence. She has been an adjunct professor at Central
Connecticut State University and Southern Connecticut State University for
over 10 years, teaching courses in Death and Dying, Bereavement and Aging.
