Max Reynal and Doug Morrione are the co-producers and co-creators
of the Jack, the Cuddly Dog baby video which is
now in production for the second installment of the series. In addition
to being filmmakers, they are respectively a father and an uncle
who decided there was a need for a new generation of baby videos.
Inspired by classic baby books such as Goodnight Moon
and Winnie the Pooh, they decided to focus the
videos on a cuddly hand-drawn puppy who would give the videos a
warm and "organic" feel. Paul Beard who was an animator on Nickelodeon's
popular Blues Clues series created the animation.
Another artistic differentiator was having music recorded on real
instruments rather than on synthesizers.
Max and Doug created the character of Jack who is starting to learn about the world, scampering about and saying "hello" to the viewers. Their goal has been to make a gentle educational video that would delight young children and parents alike.
Jack, the Cuddly Dog - Colors and Shapes is a
fun, soothing and educational video for babies and toddlers three
and under. The video was designed to delight adults as well!
The animation is hand-drawn and combined with live footage of babies, squirrels, turtles, dogs, farm animals and nature that was shot in Central Park, New York City, Maine, and the British Isles. The educational concepts focus on shapes and colors and name them all so that toddlers can repeat the words along with the video.
The music selections are beautiful pieces from Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy and Mendelssohn. They were arranged and performed for children on a real piano by concert pianist Cheryl Tschanz. Feedback from parents, caregivers, toddlers and giggling babies has shown this video to be a unique and enjoyable experience!
