Cars, R/C and Otherwise…
By Tim Sullivan

A hurricane is brewing outside my window.  The wind is howling, the house is creaking, and I am on the kitchen floor playing crash derby with my matchbox cars, oblivious.  Actually, this all happened quite some time ago.  But in the past couple of days, in preparing for this article, I’ve tried to rekindle that spirit.

It is not as though I was ever in any real danger.  Montclair, NJ is not exactly prone to hurricanes.  But I was too wrapped up in my cars to even notice the storm.  I loved toy cars growing up, and to be honest I kind of like them now, too.  I feel childish in doing that, but apparently I am not alone.

According to a recent report by Unity Marketing (www.unitymarketingonline.com,) die cast car sales are up 8%, with $1.1 billion dollars in sales.  The surprising statistic is that only 17% of those sales were for children.  Unity Marketing reports that this is a trend that will continue for at least the next decade.
