Antarctica Global WARming
Antarctica Global WARming

Gender: Boys And Girls
Age: 8 and Up

Global warming has melted the great ice sheets. No polar caps remain. The oceans are free. Gone are the magnificent harbours that once dotted the shores of every land. The waters have risen more than 80 meters. Land is everything! Millions are starving. Fertile plains are no more. The great grain belts of the world have been tightened. Tension runs high yet there is hope. Four rallying hosts prepare in haste. One dominion can save but a few ... the race is on. Armies are raised with every man coming forth. Unite and fight ... conquer or be lost. Combine your forces, assemble your fleets and breach the storms. Clouds clear for one last stand. The prize is yours ... Antarctica.

There are 4 Continents, plus Antarctica. Each Continent depicts a portion of the actual inundated world. Recognizable shorelines are visible under the water. A rotating Weather Wheel with storm clouds affects game play. Two compass rings are included one close to the centre and another on the perimeter. Both rings have arrows. Compass markings are at 15 degree intervals. Each Continent has 8 land segments, some with 1 island and 7 main segments and another with 2 islands and 6 main segments. There are 3 harbours per Continent. Water segments are clearly designated by the off-set square dotted grid pattern. Coastal segments are transition water segments that have a least one edge as the shoreline of a Continent or Antarctica.

*Patent Pending* Interactive Play Surface: Our revolutionary new layered play surface is the first innovation to come to board gaming in many years. This feature allows for moveable weather to become a part of the game and with changing intensities can freeze or destroy game pieces.

About SAVITA GAMES INC.

Savita Games is proud to present a new board game called ‘Antarctica.’ ‘The game’s theme is about the consequences of Global Warming’ which so aptly resonates with today’s daily news stories from Al Gore’s latest offering ‘An Inconvenient Truth’,  to reports of major changes in our artic ecosystem, to weather havoc in yet another part of the world. No one is immune from these reports… nor can they be ignored.

With land shrinkage come’s movement of people. Reduced availability of fresh water, Crowding, food shortages and destruction of our major sea-side cities will lead to economic hardships and desperation. War is a possible outcome as those with the means muscle their way and occupy what is left. Antarctica becomes a prize because it is the only large land mass left that is not occupied… as yet.

This is a real scenario. Movies, newspaper stories and books abound covering many aspects of the problems to come. Media is instantaneous and creates short term interest and then it is left on a shelf or becomes ‘Yesterday’s News.’ A popular board game is played over and over again. Its shelf life is measured in years and because it postulates outcomes via various strategies each game can be very different from the last. ‘Antarctica’ is such a game! It entertains, informs and keeps the issues on the front burner. It’s also fun to play…that’s why people will keep coming back…exclaiming, “If I had only done that!”

The theme is ‘Today’… another reminder as is Al Gore’s and David Suzuki’s offerings, Kyoto and the list goes on. Board games are played frequently, books are reread after a time and movies are viewed at most a couple of times. Board games are social animals… people interact while playing. They are engaged and so is the theme.
