Created originally in manga form by Japanese animator Shirow Masamune and based on Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 film, “Ghost in the Shell,” this popular series, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, already has three volumes released on DVD, with an additional three to be released this year. Kamiyama’s version centers on the same lead character, Major Motoko Kusanagi, as well as the same supporting cast and setting, though takes place in a parallel universe. It contains some violence, grotesque imagery, nudity and alcohol use.
