What Is It?
The Wave combines three sports (skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing) into one dynamic adventure. It is uniquely shaped with concave platforms (with an outrageously cool design for the deck plates) conjoined by a spring-oriented torsion bar promoting the “S” shape for self-propelled movement. The Wave is curved at the nose and tail to accommodate tricks, and has traction plates for extra grip and casters that turn 360 degrees for superior control. It comes with an instructional DVD and is packaged with fantastic designs unique to the board you choose.
What We Thought
WOW! This is the most fun I’ve ever had at the skate park. Before “The Wave,” I would have rather just watched, as I’ve experienced more than my share of wipeouts. (Note: Wear protective gear!) Though I’m not an expert in any of the three sports The Wave combines, this did not deter me from practicing and riding the board. Street Surfing has signature helmets and gear that are a must for the boarding enthusiast — which you will soon be after mastering your first “S” shaped, self-propelled move.
Why They’ll Want It
Once you get the moves down with practice, The Wave is a blast! The board is definitely for all seasons, but do avoid dirt and sand. I’ve experienced this and it is NOT fun. I would love to see the famous sportsman Shaun White, a.k.a. “The Flying Tomato,” ride this board at the X Games. — Dena Welter, 2/11/08

What Is It?
This game for young children includes a soft, cloth box that opens to reveal four pieces of pizza joined by Velcro®. On the inside of the box top are five cloth toppings (pepperoni, mushroom, meatball, tomato and onion) tucked into pockets and a server holding four recipes (Majestic, Deluxe, Old Fashioned and Super Duper) that show the numbers and pictures of the ingredients that go with each. The toppings have Velcro backs for attachment to the pizza, and the box also closes with Velcro.
What We Thought
Pockets Pizza displays good, old-fashioned quality with hand-sewn appeal and a softness that makes it safe and playable for toddlers. The little server is cute, and the details of the presentation, such as the bright, embroidered names of the ingredients, make it attractive. Also, the opportunities to count, match and learn fractions make it a nice educational tool. Overall, the game might benefit from different or brighter colors, as the box and some of the other shades seem a bit dull. I would also recommend two more toppings, in order to fill all the open spots on the pizza. This game made me hungry!
Why They’ll Want It
Children will want to eat this game up as they act like little chefs, placing pepperoni or mushrooms onto their masterpiece. The machine-washable toy is a great take-along and would be easy to pack due to its soft, compressible nature. What Is It?
These press-and-peel vinyl animé-styled stickers let little girls try out fashion and hairstyles in a big (mini) way. The reusable teeny-tiny clothing and shoes are dusted with glitter for extra pizzazz. The mini characters range from babies to big girls, and some even have their own pets. A charm, complete with an assortment of puffy stickers to decorate it, is also included. This collectible series of fashion books and stickers is produced in limited quantities.
What We Thought
Simplymini is a simple way to keep mini girls entertained for hours. Whether playing alone in the car or with friends during recess, kids will have fun swapping out hairstyles, skirts, shirts, dresses and boots just by peeling and sticking. The styles are fun, colorful and fancy enough for the pickiest fashionista.
Why They’ll Want It
This reviewer played with an included sample and had no good reason for opening and playing with the full-sized product, but nevertheless found it irresistible. Simplymini would make a great birthday gift, travel gift, get-well soon gift, stock stuffer, etc., etc. for just about any little (or big) girl who likes pretty clothes and lots of choices. — Alison Marek 2/4/08
