Bossa Nova Robotics creates a new breed of dynamic personal robots. Based in the nation's robotics capital, Pittsburgh, PA, Bossa Nova is a spinoff from Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute.

Both Prime-8 and Penbo are built on Animotion Technology. Animotion is an innovative robotic bipedal platform that makes Bossa Nova robots agile and lively, allowing them to outmaneuver, outrun, and outsmart other Bots. The technology allows the robots to balance and walk by rotating arms or legs around the body. This gives Bossa Nova robots the ability to move on carpet and hard floor, and seamlessly transition from one surface to the other.

Our patent-pending robotic technology is licensed from Carnegie Mellon University. It is inspired from the results of a multi-million-dollar research program at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute. Bossa Nova re-engineered the technology to make it affordable and added robot-human interactivity to make the robots fun and engaging.

Bossa Nova robot interaction is powered by a battery of sensors that allows the robots to respond to users and the environment. Internal sensors orient the robots and allow them to walk and run while other sensors detect sound, obstacles, and touch, making the robots seem alive.

He is silly, occasionally rude, and goes crazy when disturbed in his sleep! Prime-8’s intense interactivity is powered by a battery of sensors that allow him to respond to people and to his environment. Internal sensors measure his orientation constantly, and prompt him to right himself should he fall down. Outbound sight and sound sensors help Prime-8 maneuver around obstacles, respond to questions with grunts and growls, and express himself.
