Little Adventures

Puttin’ on the Ritz for Kids

By Andrea Farrell

Little Adventures will be dressed in its finest for Toy Fair ’08 and hopes to be on-camera as part of TDmonthly Magazine’s documentary, Toy Frenzy! Andrea Farrell, marketing specialist for Little Adventures, shared how the company got its start.

FROM $1 RACK TO 2,000 DRESS-UPS

The owners, Jenny Farnsworth and Heather Granata, both moms, felt there was a dearth of quality costumes for kids in the market. They started out by purchasing $50 worth of fabric from a store’s $1 rack.

After finding that endeavor to be successful, they cashed out on a $10,000 401K plan and ordered the minimum amount of fabric required by the company they were working with, proceeding to cut out patterns, one by one, in Jenny’s basement. That first year they made 2,000 dress-ups.

SMALL FACTORY = BIG QUALITY

Business has grown steadily since that time and we now manufacture our wonderful line of dress-ups and accessories in a small, exclusive, family-owned factory in Southern China. We are very fortunate to have a great relationship with the family owners of the factory, and since they are small and exclusive to our line, we are able to maintain a high level of quality assurance.

Due to this relationship, we have avoided the many mistakes and problems recently seen in overseas manufacturing. We have frequent phone conversations with the factory owner, sample reviews, and personally travel to the factory twice a year to inspect the premises.

READY FOR THE FAIR

With our attendance at Toy Fair we hope to add contacts, to boost the Little Adventures® name and product recognition, and increase sales. And what fun it would be to be a part of "Toy Frenzy!" — the short feature documentary produced by ToyDirectory and TDmonthly Magazine!
