TDmonthly Roundtable Reviews - FAQs

Everything You Need to Know About Having Your Toy Reviewed

By Alison Marek

If you want to spend less time convincing reps and retailers that kids will love your product, good review from a TDmonthly Roundtable  gives you impartial feedback that buyers trust. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that may help you decide if a Roundtable is right for you:

How do I know if it's the right time to get a TDmonthly Roundtable?

If you're confident that a group of five families who don't know you or your product will give you a review of three or more stars, then you're ready.

If you're uncertain of what grade you'll get, then it's probably time to hear objective opinions. Even if you are given a low rating, you'll receive plenty of positive suggestions about how to improve your product.

My product is targeted toward a very specific age group. How do I know the right kids will be evaluating my product?

We design the Roundtables based on information you give us. If you need a group of 8- to 12-year-old boys, that's who will be assigned to your product. If you need toddler girls, we'll find you five families with toddler girls. Please be very clear about who your product is meant to serve, and we'll find the right reviewers!

How many families participate?

Roundtables usually consist of five families.

Where do the Roundtable families live?

Each Roundtable demographic varies. For many of the Roundtables, reviewers are chosen from all around the country.

How long does it take to do a TDmonthly Roundtable?

After you sign up for a Roundtable and send out the samples to participating families,it generally takes from 3 to 4 months for the families to review the toys and submit their comments, and for the editors to create your private Report as well as the public article in TDmonthly.

What kind of Roundtables do you have?

Our Roundtables vary by what each manufacturer requires, but we can easily assemble a Homeschoolers Roundtable, Boys Roundtable, Girls Roundtable, Preschool Roundtable, Baby Roundtable, Diversity Roundtable and even, on special order, a Specialty Toy Retailers Roundtable.

What if I get a bad review?

If your product receives a review of less than three TDmonthly stars, we will not publish the article about your Roundtable, unless you request that we do so. The good news is, the Roundtable participants always give suggestions on how to improve products. So, if you get a disappointing review, you'll know exactly why and you'll know how to fix the problem.

Here's what one of our Roundtable participants said when her Report was less than she'd wanted:

"It was very disheartening when we received the report, however, we believe it was a healthy dose of reality and I truly believe we are a better company as a result. We are now open in the Mall and the feedback has been phenomenal, something I don't think would have happened prior to thechanges."

What is in the Roundtable Report that I receive?

Each finished report contains the full comments of the parents whose children played with your product, plus the TDmonthly star grade given by each parent. Comments include quotes from children playing with the product as well as parents' responses to their children's reactions. Also included is a section where each reviewer offers suggestions to improve the product.

What can I do with the Report after I receive it?

The Report is yours, so you can post it on your site, or keep it only for your own company's reference.

Do I get to edit the article about my Roundtable that goes into TDmonthly Magazine?

No. The purpose of the Roundtable is to give our 27,800 retailer readers unbiased reactions to new games and toys. You will, however, have a chance to review the article before it goes live and may email us with any clarifications or corrections, in case there is an inaccuracy.

What can I do with the article?

You'll be emailed a link to your TDmonthly Roundtable article, which you'll be free to pass on to whomever you choose. You can mail it to reps, retailers, consumers and anyone else who wants to know more about your product.

You may also print out the article by clicking on the little printer icon at the top of the article, next to "Article Tools." You can add the printed version to your press kit, or turn it into a mailer to retailers and reps.

How long does the article stay in TDmonthly?

The article will only appear on the front page of TDmonthly until the current month is over, but the link will remain active as long as TDmonthly is. That's one of the great advantages of working with TDmonthly Magazine: since we're online, our articles get read by new readers months and even years after they've been published.
