PlaSmart Inc. Signed as Exclusive North American Distributor for DoodleArt

1970’s Color-it-Yourself Poster Hit on Verge of Major Comeback

August 2012

PlaSmart Inc., a global toy company specializing in fun, innovative and engaging toys that bring families together, has been signed as the exclusive North American distributor for mass and specialty retailers for the well-known colour-it-yourself poster kit brand The Original DoodleArt.

DoodleArt is an intricate, color-it-yourself poster kit that many remember decorating walls, dorm rooms and cafe’s around the globe in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

“With society wrapped up in tech gadgets and communicating in ways that barely acknowledge the other person, we believe that parents and kids are looking for something new to exercise their individual creative impulses and bring them back together with their families and friends in a fun and more meaningful way,” says Andrew Perkins, CEO, DoodleArt and Michael McLennan, President, DoodleArt.  “We have already achieved substantial retail distribution in Canada through Indigo-Chapters-Coles and have experienced very enthusiastic responses at international trade shows and exhibitions since we re-launched the brand in 2010.  We think that PlaSmart, with its commitment to fun, educational and engaging products that bring families together, is the ideal partner to grow DoodleArt’s distribution in North America and re-establish it as a breakout hit as they have with their PlasmaCar, PlasmaBike and Perplexus brands.”

DoodleArt posters will be rebranded in new plastic tubes with large label inserts. Each poster kit comes with 12 felt pens each with a calligraphy tip on one end and a fine tip on the other end and filled with environmentally friendly vegetable-dye inks.  Twenty of the original DoodleArt posters have been digitally recreated with ten currently in print including Flowers, Jangle, Butterflies, Fairy Tales, and Prehistoric designs.  In keeping with DoodleArt tradition, a new design will also be unveiled at the 2013 New York Toy Fair.

DoodleArt was originally launched in 1972 and the ‘do your own color thing’ became an instant hit with all age groups – young teenagers, singles, families and seniors – achieving large-scale retail distribution in 16 countries, in a craze that lasted over ten years and became an iconic pastime throughout the world.

“We are very excited about the potential of DoodleArt to duplicate its incredible success,” says Tim Kimber, President and CEO, PlaSmart Inc.  “It is a perfect fit for our portfolio of products and we look forward to bringing it to market in a major way in 2013.”
