WWD’s exclusive today puts Mattel Creations in the Paris Fashion Week conversation. French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has miniaturized his iconic 1986 teddy-bear coat for Barbie and Ken. Barbie gets the full coat with denim knee-high boots and a graffiti T-shirt dress; Ken wears a simplified version with baggy jeans and sneakers. The dolls are sold separately at $150 each.

Street date: Friday at 6 p.m. CET exclusively on the Mattel Creations site, with a Saturday launch event during Paris Fashion Week. Robert Best, VP of Barbie product design, framed the collab around individuality and fashion-as-play. For retailers and gift guides, this is a collector fashion story—not a kids-aisle reset—with strong photo hooks and a clear exclusive window.

Mattel’s Thomas & Friends relaunch is about to get a big screen moment. The 30-minute special Really Helpful Engines—first chapter of Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories—is already on YouTube and debuts on Netflix tomorrow, September 30. Henry Golding narrates in English; Karla Souza in Spanish. The full series follows in early 2027.

On the toy side, the Easy Connect track system and reimagined magnetic die-cast engines are already at retailers globally, with 26 characters aimed at preschoolers who need faster, frustration-light builds. Mattel is also staging a free High Line pop-up in New York on October 2 from 5–7 p.m. Pair the Netflix date with Easy Connect endcaps and the pop-up for a clean content-to-shelf week.

October’s LEGO calendar is locked for gift-guide season. Insiders early access for several heroes opens October 1 (general release often October 4 in some markets). Standouts: 72306 PlayStation at $179.99; 40899 Astro Bot as a gift-with-purchase (widely expected with $150+ spend, details still firming); Icons 11387 Holiday House at $129.99 for Winter Village; Ideas 21373 Downton Abbey at $349.99; and Ideas 21371 Wallace & Gromit at $99.99.

Also on the October 1 wave: seasonal Christmas sets, Pokémon SKUs including an Up-Scaled Red minifigure, Marvel Avengers: Doomsday product, and UCS Executor buyers (1–10 October) looking at a Darth Vader lightsaber GWP while stocks last. Four clear merchandising lanes—gaming nostalgia, holiday village, prestige TV, and big Star Wars—make this an easy multi-SKU package for TD Monthly and Toy Directory holiday previews.

Barbie DreamStyle launches on Roblox

Mattel Game Studios, with Roblox and developer Exclusible, launched Barbie DreamStyle—a timed fashion styling experience available now. Up to four players pick a scene and theme, build a look in five minutes, then compete in a look-off and vote. Likes and stars unlock rewards and shop items; friends play earns bonus rewards. Creator Dioncella (Dress to Impress) and lifestyle creator iBella are part of the collaboration story.

This is digital Barbie doing what physical Barbie always sold: self-expression, but on the platform where kids already socialize. Use it as a companion piece to the Castelbajac dolls—fashion on the shelf and fashion in the feed.

Aldi Süd Barbie joins Aldimania in Germany

German discounter Aldi Süd put a limited-edition Barbie on shelves from September 28 as part of its Aldimania collection, priced at €12.99. The doll wears a pink Aldi-logo dress with sunglasses, cap, flip-flops, shopping trolley, and a pile of themed accessories (thermos, beach ball, produce stickers, and more—18 accessories in total per Aldi’s notes).

It’s a regional retailer exclusivity story with cult-merch energy, useful for European trade readers and as a reminder that grocery retail still moves doll volume when the packaging is playful enough.

LEGO Icons Dragon Ball: Shenron & Goku (11390)

LEGO’s official product page for Icons 11390 Dragon Ball: Shenron & Goku is live as Coming soon, with CDN product art and a listed price of $179.99. That confirms the anime Icons play after LEGO’s Instagram Dragon Ball teaser—and moves the story from rumor to a real SKU retailers can track.

Street date and piece count may still firm up on the product page as the set leaves Coming soon. Fan chatter about a broader Dragon Ball Z theme in 2027 remains unverified. For publish today: lead with the official LEGO page and art; treat November timing from third-party reports as provisional until LEGO posts a firm on-sale date.
