Hasbro Games is sending Monopoly Deal: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas into retail as a holiday party SKU. Players collect Halloween Town properties and play Nightmare-themed actions such as Mausoleum (force higher rent) and Graveyard Groove (draw an extra card).

Specs are gift-guide friendly: 2–5 players, ages 8+, about 15 minutes, $6.99 MSRP. Stock it next to other Monopoly Deal licenses as a low-ticket stocking stuffer with Disney/Tim Burton shelf heat.

Monopoly Cheaters Edition

Hasbro’s Monopoly Cheaters Edition (E1871) leans into rule-bending: Cheat cards, a plastic handcuff unit, and the usual board, tokens, deeds, Chance/Community Chest, hotels, and dice. Ages 8+, 2–6 players; recent trade roundups have cited about $21.99 MSRP.

It’s the family-night Monopoly variant for tables that already own the classic—merchandise beside standard Monopoly and themed Deal packs rather than as a first Monopoly purchase.

Asmodee will release Reiner Knizia’s Gold Country (Allplay / Bitewing Games) into retail on October 16 at $45. Players run California Gold Rush mining companies: build firms, trade mine shares, and buy ability cards while claiming tiles from a bag—gold and fool’s gold included—until every vein is found. Most gold wins.

It’s 2–4 players, ages 8+, about 45 minutes, with two maps and randomized setups. The joint Kickstarter with Totally Human cleared $220,515 from 2,854 backers. Pitch it as a short share-trading Knizia for game night ahead of Essen.

Asmodee confirmed its SPIEL Essen 2026 presence (October 22–25, Messe Essen). Lookout Games launches Forest Shuffle: Smoky Mountains at the show—a standalone third Forest Shuffle set with water-focused Smoky Mountains terrain, demos on site, and a promotional card with show purchases. Shops are expected to see it around the Essen window.

Also on the floor: Office Dog’s The Lord of the Rings: Circle of Conflict as a preview; Dotted Games’ LEGO NINJAGO: Destiny’s Bounty Adventures; plus Disney, Star Wars, and Netflix KPop Demon Hunters titles in the new-releases zone. Essen is the Q4 specialty buying calendar hook.

Mattel Creations’ UNO Fandom × Clueless deck celebrates 30 years of the 1995 teen comedy with photo cards of Cher, Dionne, and the Bronson Alcott crew. The pack includes 112 premium cards plus an alt-art foil “Ugh, As If” Wild Card that rejects other players’ cards—collectible packaging aimed at ’90s nostalgia buyers.

Listed at $12 on Creations. Treat it as fashion/nostalgia collectible UNO next to other Fandom decks.

Mattel’s UNO Show ’Em No Mercy Attack (JNK69) adds a two-button card launcher to the ruthless No Mercy ruleset—press-your-luck penalties with physical theater for ages 7+. Same vicious card math as No Mercy, plus a table toy that fires cards at opponents.

Mattel Creations lists it at $30. Stack it with standard No Mercy for dual price points on the same franchise endcap.

Mattel’s Scrabble Deluxe (Y9585) keeps classic scoring but upgrades the furniture: a built-in turntable, tile-lock board so letters stay put while it spins, storage for racks and tiles, and a premium look for household word players rather than travel sets.

Expect 2–4 players, ages 8+, with 100 tiles and four racks. European Mattel shopping lists it around €89.99. Position as the step-up Scrabble for gift guides and evergreen word-game endcaps.

Defenders of the Dictionary: co-op Scrabble-style Kickstarter

Adam’s Apple Games (Planet Unknown) is Kickstarting Defenders of the Dictionary through October 9—a cooperative word campaign where players contribute letters, not finished words, to spell across Wordopolis maps and stop villains who want to simplify English. Sixteen missions, about 45 minutes a session, built for mixed vocabulary levels.

Late-September coverage had the campaign well past its $10,000 goal. Pledges include about $40 standard, $60 deluxe, and $99 deluxe with expansions. A hobby-channel note for word-game buyers who want co-op instead of cutthroat Scrabble.

CATAN U.S. National Championship goes public in Chicago

Catan Studio’s U.S. National Championship ran September 25–27 in Chicago—and for the first time the nationals were a public event, with a watch party, merch, and a stream on the CATAN YouTube channel while five championship games played out.

Separately this month, Asmodee / Catan Studio extended sports marketing with a season-long Ottawa Senators NHL partnership (arena ads, concourse activations, game night November 23), after last year’s Minnesota Timberwolves deal. Championship weekend plus sports tie-ins: competitive legitimacy and mass-audience reach.
