MAGNA-TILES Puts Its Brand on a Kids' Toothbrush for the First Time: the $69.99 MAGNA-TILES x Burst Set

MAGNA-TILES x Burst Kids Electric Toothbrush Set in red

Oral-care brand Burst and MAGNA-TILES have released a limited-edition MAGNA-TILES x Burst Kids Sonic Toothbrush Set, which USA Today describes as the magnetic-tile brand's first-ever brand collaboration. The kit pairs a red Burst Kids sonic toothbrush with a charging base and cable, a matching red travel case and 16 genuine MAGNA-TILES microMAGS pieces (8 orange squares plus triangles) that work with other MAGNA-TILES sets. Burst says the brush removes up to 26 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush, has a built-in two-minute timer, offers Standard and Sensitive modes and runs up to 30 days on a charge.

Burst lists the set at $69.99 (regular price $93.99) and rates it for ages 3 and up because it includes small magnetic pieces. It is also sold on Amazon.

Pros: A real building-toy bonus (16 microMAGS) in a practical gift; two-minute timer and two brushing modes; long battery life.
Cons: Costs far more than a standard kids' electric brush; the small magnetic pieces mean younger siblings need watching.

PMI Fast and Furious NOS Capsule Collectibles

PMI announced on Oct. 21 that its Fast & Furious NOS Capsule Collectibles are now on sale exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com, timed to the franchise's 25th anniversary. Each blind capsule is shaped like a NOS bottle and holds a character figure paired with a custom car, plus a sticker set, a mini poster and a wheelbase for building a display scene. There are 12 character-and-car combinations to collect, including Dominic Toretto, Brian O'Conner, Letty Ortiz, Luke Hobbs, Deckard Shaw, Roman Pearce and Han Lue, with rare pieces mixed in. MSRP is $9.97, for ages 8 and up.

The line is the first product under a multi-year global licensing agreement with Universal that PMI says will cover several of the studio's best-known entertainment brands, with new launches expected in 2027 and beyond. "As one of Universal's official collectibles partners, we're excited to kick off our collaboration with a product that captures the energy of the franchise," said PMI CEO Omer Dekel.

Pros: Under $10; each capsule pairs a figure with a car plus display extras; the packaging itself is part of the collectible.

American Girl Turns 40 with Its First Novel for Adults, "Samantha: The Next Chapter"

Samantha: The Next Chapter book cover

To mark American Girl's 40th anniversary, author Fiona Davis wrote a historical novel for adults about the brand's original character, Samantha Parkington, NPR reported on Oct. 18. In Samantha: The Next Chapter, Samantha is 25 in 1920 and learns her grandmother's inheritance has been stolen; she goes "from socialite to shopgirl overnight," Davis said. Pleasant Rowland launched Pleasant Company with Samantha, Molly and Kirsten in 1986. Today the Mattel-owned brand has more than 50 characters, and the company says about one American Girl doll is sold every minute.

Pros: A grown-up story for the millennials who grew up with Samantha; a ready-made gift to pair with a doll for a parent and child.
Cons: Written for adults, so it is not a pick for young American Girl readers.

15-Year-Old Designer's "Wizerds, Warriors, & Werewolves" Heads to SPIEL Essen with Tycoon Games

Wizerds, Warriors, and Werewolves card game box

New Hampshire-based publisher Tycoon Games, known for Everdell and Tiny Epic Dungeons, is bringing Wizerds, Warriors, & Werewolves, a fast fantasy card-battling game Laurie Buchanan designed when he was 10, to SPIEL Essen in Germany, where the now 15-year-old will demonstrate it at Tycoon's booth. Players use Action Cards and their Champions' special abilities to battle rivals and survive monsters and werewolves. The game is for two to eight players, plays in about 20 minutes and has an MSRP of $25. It is already sold in the U.S., with U.K. and European availability to follow.

Pros: Plays up to eight in about 20 minutes, so it works for big family groups; a kid-designed game is a fun story for young players.
Cons: Amazon showed limited stock on Oct. 21; a card-battler with "take that" play may frustrate kids who prefer cooperative games.
