Fugglers, the "funny-ugly" plush monsters with human-like teeth, are one of the hottest plush toys on Amazon right now. On Oct. 21, three of them ranked in the top 11 of Amazon's Stuffed Animals & Plush Toys Best Sellers list: Munch Munch at No. 6, Mr Screech at No. 9 and Sir Belch at No. 11. Here is what each one looks like, what it costs and what parents should know before buying.
What is a Fuggler?
The brand's official site describes Fugglers as "funny-ugly monsters" you can recognize by their "human-like teeth, vacant eyes, disturbing demeanour and distinctive BUTT-on hole." The current 9-inch (22 cm) plush are made by ZURU. Some of them carry a rare "Butt-on Hole" collector's mark, which turns buying them into a hunt. Amazon lists all three picks below at a manufacturer's recommended age of 4 and up, with a choking-hazard warning: small parts, not for children under 3.
1. Fuggler Baddies Munch Munch
Price: $11.97 on Amazon (list price $12.99). Ages: 4+ (manufacturer). Rating: 4.8 stars from 644 ratings.
From the fashion-themed Baddies series, this Munch Munch is pink and yellow and, per its listing, "always snacking." It is the No. 6 plush on Amazon, and the listing showed "5K+ bought in past month" on Oct. 21. Note that this is a new version: the original Munch Munch on the Fuggler site looks different.
Pros: The cheapest of the three; the highest-ranked Fuggler on Amazon; reviewers call it soft and funny.
Cons: Some reviewers say the eyelashes arrived badly trimmed; ships without a collector display box.
2. Fuggler Fugglercorns Mr Screech
Price: $12.99 on Amazon. Ages: 4+ (manufacturer). Rating: 4.7 stars from 377 ratings.
The Fugglercorns are Fuggler's take on unicorns. Mr Screech has lavender fluff and a glittery horn, and its listing calls it "the loudest personality in the room." It is the No. 9 plush on Amazon, with "3K+ bought in past month" on Oct. 21.
Pros: A unicorn twist for kids who want something sparkly but weird; reviewers say it is a good size for the price.
Cons: Several reviewers were disappointed it came without the display box; the product description warns of glitter.
3. Fuggler Sir Belch (Beach Series)
Price: $17.88 on Amazon. Ages: 4+ (manufacturer). Rating: 4.9 stars from 366 ratings.
Sir Belch is one of the original Fuggler characters. The official bio warns: "The minute a morsel of food touches its lips, it will belch for days." This version, with spotted fur and a sticking-out pink tongue, comes from ZURU's beach-themed series, which Amazon sells under the name "Nipple Fuggs" because the plush have button nipples on the belly. It is the No. 11 plush on Amazon, with "3K+ bought in past month" on Oct. 21.
Pros: The best-rated of the three; reviewers praise its softness and quality.
Cons: The most expensive of the three; the button-nipple gag may not suit every family or classroom.
Which Fuggler should you pick?
For a stocking stuffer, Munch Munch is the lowest price and the top seller. For a kid who loves unicorns, Mr Screech is the obvious pick. For collectors, Sir Belch is a classic character with the highest rating. One reviewer warns that resellers ask $39 to $50 for Fugglers that sell for about $12 to $18 on Amazon, so check the seller before you buy.
