Starlux Games: the glow-in-the-dark backyard crew brings its light to the game table

Starlux made its name with glowing Capture the Flag. Now its Hag has a UV eye, a light-up maze and, yes, hair. What kids will love, and what parents should know first.

Disclosure: This is free editorial. Starlux Games did not pay for this coverage, and no samples were provided. We have not play-tested these products; this spotlight is built from the maker’s own pages, Amazon listings and the public sources listed at the end.

Meet the Maker

Starlux Games started on Boy Scout camping trips in the Sierra Nevada, where Capture the Flag was “the best game ever,” according to the company’s About page. Founder Judd King taught high school for nine years and says he wanted a game “so incredibly engaging and dynamic that teenagers would actually put their phones down.” His first product was a glow-in-the-dark Capture the Flag.

Most of the catalog still lives outside after dark: glowing tag bracelets, light-up safe zones, foam swords. Enchanted Maze is the company’s move onto the table, and it keeps the glow, thanks to the Hag’s UV eye.

In this spotlight:

  1. Enchanted Maze
  2. Glow Tag
  3. Ghosts in the Graveyard Redux

01 · THE BOARD GAME

Enchanted Maze

Ages 5+ · 1–6 players · 20–40 min · needs 3 AAA batteries (maker and Amazon listing)

Kid Hook

The Hag has gone bonkers, and your job is to rescue one critter of each color to cure her. The twist is her UV eye: wherever she stands, it reveals hidden walls, new paths and traps that were invisible a second ago. Get caught on a trap and she’s got you. Kids who like a little spooky (but not too spooky) will lean right over the board.

Parent Reality Check

  • It’s roll-and-move at heart, so luck matters. The listing pitches “enough luck and strategy to engage adults”; expect the 5-year-old to win sometimes, fair and square.
  • Three ways to play: a race, a team mission, or solo. That helps when siblings want different things, or when one kid wants a quiet puzzle.
  • It needs 3 AAA batteries. The maker page says “requires”; check the box for whether they’re included, and keep spares for Christmas morning.
  • The maze tiles rotate and rearrange, so the board is different each game.

Pros

  • Solo, co-op and competitive modes
  • New maze layout every game
  • Short enough for a school night (20–40 min)

Cons

  • Luck-heavy roll-and-move core
  • Needs AAA batteries to work
  • Lots of little critter pieces to keep track of

Price: $39.90 (Amazon, Oct. 26, 2026). Starlux lists the same $39.90 on its own site.

02 · THE CHEAP THRILL

Glow Tag

2–12 players (listing) · 8 LED bracelets · CR1220 batteries included and replaceable

Kid Hook

Tag, but everyone glows. The set swaps flags for 8 light-up wristbands and comes with game ideas like Flashlight Tag, Freeze Tag and Zombie Tag. Kids who already run around the yard until dark now have a reason to keep going.

Parent Reality Check

  • The bracelets run on CR1220 coin-cell batteries. Coin cells are dangerous if swallowed, so keep spares away from toddlers and check that battery doors stay closed.
  • The box has 8 bracelets, but the listing says 2–12 players. Bigger groups will need to work out who glows.
  • The listing’s own numbers don’t match: the title says 10 game options, a bullet says 12. Either way, it’s plenty.
  • The listing says the LEDs last 12+ hours and the bands turn on and off and resize from kids to adults.

Pros

  • $24.90 entry price
  • Batteries included and replaceable
  • Sized for kids and adults

Cons

  • Coin-cell batteries need adult watch around little kids
  • 8 bracelets for a 12-player claim
  • Listing contradicts itself on game count

Price: $24.90 (Amazon, Oct. 26, 2026).

03 · HALLOWEEN WEEK PICK

Ghosts in the Graveyard Redux

Ages 5+ (title) · 4–8 players · 7 glowing Ghost Hunter bracelets + 4 light-up Safe Zone Markers (listing)

Kid Hook

“There’s a ghost in the graveyard, run, run, ruuuun!” Ghosts hide, Ghost Hunters search with glowing bracelets, and everyone sprints for the lit-up safe zones. It’s the classic sleepover game, now with gear that tells you where home base is in the dark.

Parent Reality Check

  • You need a yard, darkness and room to run. This is not an apartment-hallway game.
  • The age messaging is mixed: the title says 5+, a bullet aims it at kids 8–12+. For a 5-year-old, plan on an adult partner in the dark.
  • Battery type isn’t in the listing bullets we read, so check the box before game night.
  • Timely: it’s Halloween week, and the listing pitches it for parties and camping.

Pros

  • Rules everyone already knows
  • Lit safe zones make night play easier to manage
  • Gets kids off screens and moving

Cons

  • Needs outdoor space after dark
  • Mixed age guidance (5+ vs 8–12+)
  • Battery details not in the listing bullets

Price: $29.90 (Amazon, Oct. 26, 2026).

ALSO MENTIONED

The rest of the family, briefly

Capture the Flag REDUX (the original)

The glowing Capture the Flag set that started the company, per Starlux’s About page. It’s listed for ages 8+ at $59.90 (Amazon, Oct. 26, 2026).

Pros

  • The game the brand was built on
  • Big-group outdoor play

Cons

  • $59.90 is the priciest set here
  • 8+ age grade leaves little ones out

The Bottom Line

Starlux makes games for families who want the kids up and moving, and Enchanted Maze proves the idea survives a move indoors. For a 5-to-8-year-old who likes spooky but not scary, it’s the pick. For a backyard crew, Glow Tag is the low-cost way in. Keep the coin-cell batteries up high.

Safety check: We searched the CPSC recall database (saferproducts.gov) for “Starlux” on Oct. 26, 2026 and found no recalls.
