The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 requires that manufacturers and/or importers provide Certificates of Compliance* to distributors and retailers for products manufactured on or after Nov. 12, 2008, ensuring that items in each shipment meet all CSPC safety regulations. On Jan. 30, 2009, the CPSC issued a one-year stay of select testing and certification requirements. While COCs are not required in every case until Feb. 10, 2010, retailers are still requesting safety data to ensure that their products meet the new standards for lead, phthalates and other terms under the CPSIA.
