Advent Calendars Under $40 for 2026: 9 Non-LEGO Picks From Bluey to Clue, Cheapest First

By TDmonthly Staff
October 2026

A toy advent calendar doesn't have to cost $50. On Oct. 30, 2026, we found 9 kids' calendars on Amazon priced under $40, and none of them is LEGO. They run from two $24.99 character calendars (Bluey and Harry Potter) to a $34.97 Clue mystery calendar and a $39.99 science-experiment calendar. Below they're grouped by price, cheapest first, and each entry gives the age grade from the listing, the Oct. 30 price, any small-parts warning, and pros and cons. One pick was already showing low stock, so don't wait too long if you want it by Dec. 1.

Shopping by age instead? See our Best Advent Calendars for Kids 2026 by Age for Play-Doh, HABA, Hot Wheels, Melissa & Doug and Playmobil picks. LEGO fans should go to our LEGO Advent Calendars 2026 guide. Nothing here repeats either list.

All 9 at a glance, by price

Quick picks by age: ages 3+: Bluey, Peppa Pig, Barbie. Ages 5 to 6+: Schleich, Harry Potter, Petit Collage. Ages 8+: Thames & Kosmos, Clue (10+), Ravensburger (12+).

Read this first: almost every calendar has small parts

Eight of these 9 listings carry a choking-hazard warning for small parts and say they are not for children under 3. The ninth, the Ravensburger puzzle calendar, is graded 12 and up. So even the calendars with cartoon characters on the box are for ages 3 and up only. A toy calendar that looks like it's for toddlers isn't a toddler toy.

The American Academy of Pediatrics' toy-buying tips say to "Think LARGE. Make sure all toys and parts are larger than your child's mouth to prevent choking." The same page says to "Be careful about buying toys with small batteries (button or lithium coin) or high-powered magnets." None of the 9 calendars here lists batteries or magnets among its contents. If a younger sibling lives at home, open each day's door at a table, keep the loose pieces in a lidded box and store the calendar up high.

The free part: counting the days

A countdown is also a daily counting game. The CDC's tips for 3-year-olds say: "Play counting games. Count body parts, stairs, and other things you use or see every day. Children this age are starting to learn about numbers and counting." Each morning, let your child find the door with today's number and count how many are left.

For 5-year-olds, the CDC suggests: "Use words to help your child begin to understand time. For example, sing songs about the days of the week and let him know what day it is." Talk about what you opened yesterday and what might be behind tomorrow's door. A paper chain with one link to tear off each day works too, for free. If you have questions about your child's development, talk to your pediatrician.

How we picked

We looked for toy (not candy) calendars for kids that cost under $40 on Amazon on Oct. 30, 2026, that aren't LEGO, and that aren't already in our earlier advent and LEGO guides. We opened each Amazon product page that morning to check the product name, age grade, price, stock and safety warnings, and rechecked prices and stock at about 9:23 AM PT. All 9 were in stock and under $40. Prices and stock change fast this time of year, so check the listing before you buy. The age grades and warnings above are quoted from the listings; follow them.
