What's New at TOY FAIR?
February 1, 2003

Toy Industry Association, Inc. (TIA™) is proud to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of American International TOY FAIR this year. Here are some of the new features that have been added for 2003:

WORLD’S LARGEST RIBBON-CUTTING: TOY FAIR will attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for "Most Participants in a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony." This event has been coordinated so that all exhibitor personnel simultaneously cut a ribbon that runs throughout the Javits Center exhibit floors at approximately 8:45 AM on Sunday morning.

OFFICIAL SHOW OPENING AND BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR ALL: TIA Chairman Neil Friedman and other dignitaries will do the honors for the official show opening just prior to 9:00 AM on Sunday. Of course, it’s not a birthday unless there’s cake! See the extravagant birthday cake commemorating the TOY FAIR Centennial, created by the New York Restaurant School. This sugar-based masterpiece is not edible, however, we will have slices of the “real thing” on-hand for those who wish to partake in the morning celebration.

TOY FAIR CENTENNIAL BASH: CELEBRATE 100 YEARS! Enjoy food, drink, live entertainment and dancing on Sunday, February 16th at The NEW Copacabana, 560 W. 34th St., 6:00-9:00 PM. Tickets are $25; check for remaining ticket availability at TOY FAIR registration areas. No one under 18 will be admitted.

TOY FAIR WEEK: To mark this landmark event, TIA has developed, along with our industry partners, TOY FAIR WEEK— Thursday, February 13th to Wednesday, February 19th—a week-long celebration comprised of special events and commemorative publications which salute the industry and the power of play. Events still to come include . . .

Mon., 2/17: Celebrating a Century of Toys. We focus on the current state of the toy industry, while highlighting some of the most memorable accomplishments during the last one hundred years.

Tues., 2/18: The Front Lines: Honoring Toy Retailers. In January, NYC toy retailers received a special commemorative TOY FAIR anniversary poster; these posters are available for purchase at the TIA Booth, Javits Center, Crystal Palace near Hall 3E. ASTRA (American Specialty Toy Retailing Association) and TIA will co-sponsor a breakfast seminar “[name of seminar]” open to ASTRA members and conference registrants.

Wed., 2/19: Caring for Children. The focus is on the toy industry's charitable work, specifically through the Toy Industry Foundation. In addition, on this day, departing exhibitors contribute significant amounts of product to K.I.D.S. (Kids In Distressed Situations). (Cont.)
