You’ve Got Mail

Cabbage Patch Kids®

Word of mouth is still a working method of getting information out to the public.  With e-mail publicity, manufacturers can drive a positive increase in store placement and sales.  The main consideration for manufacturers when e-mail marketing is that the marketing group has a good “list,” and screens those who will be receiving the information.

Opt-in or permission-based e-mail recipients are best, and hardest to come by.  On-line marketers professional refuse to spam, and have registered member-recipients who have requested to receive information in specific categories (ride-on vehicles, for instance).

Posting information about a product on an APPROPRIATE on-line bulletin board can also do a lot to “spread the word”.

How’d They Do that?

There are so many hit products that we look back on now and wonder, "How did that get to be such a huge hit?"  Many times the product itself was not that new or innovative.  But somehow, the word was spread, and women, men, boys, and girls set up tents and cots in front of the store for a week, awaiting a midnight release.

How was it done?  They did it through publicity!  You can make a better mousetrap but you can't sell it if no one knows it is available. (cont.)
