Jishaku
Awards
This portable strategy game is similar to chess or checkers, but with a twist — the magnetic stones with unmarked north and south poles can jump out of their position at any point during the game, giving players a whole new element of challenge. "Jishaku" is the Japanese term for "magnet." The game received a 2008 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval, an iParenting Media Award, a Major Fun Award and a Mr. Dad Seal of Approval.

  • iParenting Media Outstanding Product Award "The Jishaku website is truly electrifying! As soon as I logged onto the website I was pulled to it with curiosity. The game appeared so electrifying I could not wait through the whole demonstration to find out how much it would be to purchase a game for myself."

  • Major Fun Family Award "Just putting the pieces into their foamy homes, watching them almost evilly turn towards the piece you're hoping to place near them — it is fun to play. It is even more fun to play with."
  • National Parenting Center Seal of Approval Fall 2008 "The magnetic lure of magnets entranced and thrilled our testers.    Jishaku really captivated and tickled our testers. Feeling the pull or push of the magnets as they neared one another delighted young and old as they maneuvered their pieces into and onto the foam playing surface."
  • Parents’ Choice Recommended Seal "Our testers especially liked that you can play immediately because there are no rules to remember, any number of people can play, and the game generates lots of both laughs and groans."

  • Mr. Dad Father's Day "Jishaku is a combination of strategy game and science lesson. A fascinating way to spend some quality time with boys or girls 8 and up."
  • The Toy Man Seal of ApprovalAward of Excellence "Watching the evaluators playing Jishaku was like watching a comedy show; plenty of laughs and even more unexpected e moments! Never have we seen so many people having so much fun, again and again. A primary point of interest was that no participant played the game only once."
  • Playthings Magazine Toy of the Week "Because of the magnets' powerful north and south poles, it's difficult to predict whether playing a piece will or won't cause nearby magnets to jump out of position without warning. And its in that tension where the game gets its charm."
