Ages: 4 and up Manufacturer: Rounder Kids (ToyShow) Review: A countrified collection promoting good eating habits, this CD was produced with funds from the Micronutrient Initiative, a non-profit organization specializing in addressing micronutrient malnutrition. Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer have concocted a catchy treatise on health with lots of sing-along cuts and good eating advice built into the lyrics. Awards include: Parent's Choice, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio and the American Library Association. Highlights: "Germs,” “Hula Hoop,” “Food Jokes,” “Here's One Wish"
Ages: 4 and up Manufacturer: Baby Music Boom/Liquid 8 Records (ToyShow) Review: Ben Sidran, a musician and composer on the scene since the mid-1960s, has teamed up with his son Leo to create a tasty CD with a loose focus on funny stories, dances, animals and the joys of life. There are also three cuts primarily in Spanish. Deft musical quotations from the Beatles, James Brown and other artists are laced into the arrangements. Highlights: “Popcorn’s Gotta Brand New Bag,” “The Ticklemonster,” “Fantastic Bubble”
Ages: Infant and up Manufacturer: GIA Publications (ToyShow) Review: This curiously titled collection of 36 classical music selections is designed to give children exposure to giants such as Bach, Handel and Beethoven, with short selections presented in historical order. The accompanying booklet contains some movement suggestions to enhance baby's involvement in listening and moving to music. Highlights:
“Water Music" (Handel),
“Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (Mozart),
Ages: 4 and up Manufacturer: Shrub Music/Trace Elements (ToyShow) Review: A jumping mix of Cajun, New Orleans, Funk, Samba, Tex-Mex and Western Swing styles makes this tribute to the zoo equally appealing to kids and adults. Authentic arrangements are executed with authority by George Carver and Malcolm "Papa Mali" Welbourne and their excellent band. This is a CD full of great stories you'll look forward to hearing again. Highlights: “Jungle Swingers,” “The Petting Zoo,” “Snake House” Writer's Bio: Scott Ferguson is a writer, composer and family man. Since graduating from Oberlin College, Scott has seen his music in films and commercials, won awards for his copywriting/composing for various advertising clients and received a Grammy-nomination for his music production of Robben Ford’s “Talk To Your Daughter” album for Warner Bros. Records.
