Kids can create a “doodle” with a few rolls of the Doodle Dice. There’s a different doodle pictured on each card of the deck. When players build a doodle that matches one of the cards, they take that card. Players can block an opponent's turn or take one of their cards away. Players who collect one card of each color win. It’s the fun, challenging way for everyone in the family to be a "doodle artist." Instructions come in English and Spanish. For two to six players, Doodle Dice launched in February 2006.
Awards: A TDmonthly Classics Award for being an all-time favorite toy.

The object is to be the first player/team to get five colored chips in a row, up and down, across or diagonally. Players place two decks of standard playing cards on the game board. Each turn, one player lays down a card from her hand, finds the two spaces on the board that represent the card played, and covers one of the spaces that is not already covered with one of her chips. She then draws a new card from the draw pile, thus building a Sequence and blocking her opponent. The two-eyed Jacks are wild, allowing a player to put a chip on any open space on the board. The one-eyed Jacks allow a player to remove one of an opponent’s chips from the board — as long as it is not part of an existing Sequence. Sequence is for two to 12 players of all ages. It teaches number recognition and strategy.

The first player lays down a category card from her hand and says a word from that category. She then starts the timer and the next player must lay down a card from his hand and name a word from his category card — but it has to start with the last letter of the word that the first player mentioned. Cards with yellow borders permit any player to respond once the timer has been set — including the person who played the card. If the timer buzzes before a word has been named, the player must draw another card from the deck. The first player to put down all of her cards wins. Most of the five families from the Homeschooling Roundtable said they played Respond! “pretty regularly” between November 2005 and July 2006. But at the Petoia household, the six kids have played the game “at least 50 times,” said Mom.

In this great addition game, the object is to get rid of the cards and be the first to win 3 hands. Players are dealt a hand of cards. The first player lays down any card from his hand. The next player must match that card from her hand. The same exact numbered card, or 2 or more cards that add up to that number may be played. If a player cannot match, he must draw 2 cards and then try to match. If he still cannot match, he can lay down any single card from his hand. This number becomes the one to match. For two to four players, Match´Em is a great addition game.

Each player draws a tile to determine who goes first (highest number). The highest tile is placed in the marked space on the game board. That player rolls the die. The color and shape that appear on the die will determine where tiles can be played in order to score points. The player draws 2 tiles and places them adjacent to the first tile. The score for that turn is determined by the combination of the number that was created (keep in mind that there might not be a score). The next player then rolls the die and draws 2 tiles. Again, the color and shape determine how the tiles can be used to score. The player with the highest point total at the end ofthe game wins, but everyone reinforces their strategy, addition and multiplication skills. For two to four players.

Category: Games Manufacturer: JAX LTD. Product: Cubes Gender: Girls and Boys Age: Price: Description: In this math skills game, chips are distributed and anted into the pot. All dice are rolled and totaled. (If the word “cubes” is showing, it will affect the total.) Players then take the equivilant points out from the chips in the pot. If there are not enough chips in the pot, the player puts the difference into the pot from her chips to equal the total rolled. When one player can no longer put the required chips in the pot because she is out of chips, the round is over. That player then puts all her remaining chips in the pot and has a score of 0 for that round. Other players add their points. After 3 rounds the player with the highest score is the winner. This game helps kids learn how to make change.

Players choose four chips of one color. They then separate the 5 Tip Top cards and shuffle, turn over the top card and set the pile down. The remaining Over and Out cards are shuffled and dealt to each player according to the number of chips they have. Remaining cards make up the draw deck. The first player lays a card down and draws another from the draw deck. Each player lays down a card and adds to the existing pile total. The player who causes the pile total to go over the number on the Tip Top card loses the hand and one chip. Play continues until one player is left with chips. The last player to have any chips wins. This game reinforces math skills.

Need a math game at a moment’s notice (and one that doesn’t seem like math, to boot)? This can teach addition, subtraction, probability and general counting to the younger ones.
— The Game of Chips comes in a handy-dandy tote bag and includes a set of dice and a set of numbered (1 through 10) chips (like poker chips).
— Cindy Jonq of Dublin, Calif. waxed about this game: “Chips is a fun, easy to learn, portable game that can really help your child with his/her addition facts and mental math skills. My 7-year-old son, who is smart, but anti- workbooks and drill sheets, LOVES this game.”
— According to Ross Manion of 1, 2, 3 – Play, a toy store in Vacaville, Calif., “It’s sort of a cross between math and a casino. It’s simple enough for the little kids, and has been selling well since I first got it.”
