Monchhichi at 52: the thumb-sucking monkey is back in costume (and dressed as Hello Kitty)

Disclosure: This is free editorial. Aliquantum International (Monchhichi) did not pay for this coverage, and no samples were provided. We have not play-tested these products; this spotlight is built from the maker’s own pages, Amazon listings and the public sources listed at the end.
Monchhichi was launched by Japan’s Sekiguchi in 1974: a plush body with a soft-vinyl face, hands and feet, a thumb-sucking pose and freckles. According to the official Monchhichi site, it turned 50 in 2024. The name blends the French “mon” (my) and “petit” (little).
In the U.S., Monchhichi comes from Aliquantum International (AQI), a manufacturer, distributor and licensee based in Ontario, California. AQI says it was founded in 2009 and also handles brands such as San-X, LINE and Tokidoki.
Two icons swapped outfits. Here it’s Hello Kitty in Monchhichi’s classic look: blue overalls and gingham, with embroidered and appliqué details, per Sanrio. Fans of either character will get the joke instantly.
Parent Reality Check
Surface wash only. No tossing it in the machine after a juice incident.
Price check: Amazon had it at $44.99. Sanrio’s own store had it on sale at $37.99 (regular $49.99), but marked it Final Sale, so no returns.
The 8-inch standing versions of this collab were out of stock on Amazon when we checked on Oct. 26.

Kid Hook
Classic Monchhichi face, cat costume. It’s the original look, freckles and all, with ears.
Parent Reality Check
The listing says ages 2+, younger than the Hello Kitty collab’s 3+. That’s the maker’s call; we’d still supervise little ones with the vinyl face and hands.
Monchhichi is a nostalgia buy with real staying power: 52 years on shelves and a Hello Kitty collab that makes sense. It’s not cheap per inch, and it’s surface-wash only. For a Sanrio-loving kid or a parent buying back their own childhood, the 7-inch Hello Kitty is the pick. Compare Sanrio’s price first, and remember it’s final sale there.
Safety check: We searched the CPSC recall database for “Monchhichi” and “Aliquantum” on Oct. 26, 2026 and found no recalls.
