Mattel unveiled couture Wicked: For Good collector dolls designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell, Takara Tomy launched its Petit Licca x Care Bears mini dolls, and CVS Pharmacy is widening its collectibles and squishy aisle for fall. Mattel Reveals Paul Tazewell-Designed Wicked: For Good Elphaba and Glinda Collector Dolls for Spring 2027

Mattel's new Wicked Glamified Elphaba Thropp and Glinda Upland dolls wear custom looks created by Paul Tazewell, the Academy Award-winning costume designer of the Wicked films. Elphaba's gown was inspired by mushrooms growing out of a mossy tree and by asymmetrical plumage, with a high-collar bolero and a skirt that fades from black to pink; Glinda's pink mermaid-silhouette gown draws on flower petals and butterfly wings, according to Mattel Creations. Each is a $75 Mattel Creations exclusive with a certificate of authenticity and a doll stand. Collider, which revealed the dolls on Oct. 24, reported they arrive in spring 2027 and are on display at Universal's Oztacular Spectacular fan event at Universal CityWalk Orlando on Oct. 24.
Pros: Designer-made looks tied to the films' costume designer; certificate of authenticity and stand included.
Cons: $75 each and sold only through Mattel Creations; a spring 2027 arrival means they won't be under this year's tree; made for adult collectors, not play.

Takara Tomy Launches Petit Licca x Care Bears Mini Dolls, Headed to the U.S. and Canada

Takara Tomy's Petit Licca Care Bears Collection went on sale in Japan on Oct. 24. The roughly 7 cm (about 2.75-inch) mini Licca dolls come in mystery boxes, with six Care Bears-inspired outfits (Share Bear, Good Luck Bear, Cheer Bear, Funshine Bear, Wish Bear and Tenderheart Bear) plus one secret figure, at a suggested price of 1,650 yen each, tax included. Takara Tomy says it is the group's first product under a global Care Bears license and that the line is also planned for Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States and Canada, with stock arriving in those markets in sequence. The company says the Petit Licca series, launched in Japan in February 2026, sold about eight times its plan; its Sept. 3 announcement projected cumulative shipments across Asia and North America of more than 650,000 units by the end of August.
Pros: A small, collectible way into Licca dolls with a familiar U.S. license; clothes come off and on, per Takara Tomy.
Cons: Blind boxes mean duplicates; no U.S. date or price has been announced; tiny parts aren't for small children (Takara Tomy's age grade is 3 and up).

Tree Town Toys' SpinAnimator Studio Turns Kids' Drawings Into Animation With No Batteries or Screens

Tree Town Toys' SpinAnimator Studio is a kid-powered animation station: children load a paper strip into the viewer wheel and spin it to watch their drawings move. The kit includes 48 strips (6 color-effect strips, 18 color-in strips, 18 learn-to-draw strips and 6 blank strips), 10 fine-line markers, a black drawing pen and a 12-page guide to the basics of frame animation, all stored in the base. It is for ages 6 and up, and Tree Town Toys offers free printable blank strips and downloadable refill packs on its site. A Peanuts edition is also listed.
Price: $34.99 on Amazon on Oct. 24.
Pros: Screen-free and battery-free; teaches how frame animation works; free printable strips extend play.
Cons: Once the 48 strips are used, more mean printing or buying refill downloads; $35 is a lot for a paper-based kit.

MGA's BABY born Real: Hand-Painted, One-of-a-Kind Baby Dolls for the Holidays

MGA Entertainment's BABY born Real, launched in August for the line's 35th anniversary, is a hand-painted, soft-bodied 17-inch doll weighted to 2.2 pounds. Buyers choose gender, skin tone and open or closed eyes; hair and eye color, face details, pose, outfit and other features are a surprise, and MGA says there are more than 13 billion combinations. Each doll has a sewn-in QR code (its "Cuddle Key") that unlocks a digital experience where kids discover the baby's personality, name it and print a birth certificate. It comes with clothes, a headband or hat, a magnetic pacifier and a reusable bassinet with handles, and is for ages 3 and up.
Price: $69.00 on Amazon (light skin tone, open eyes, girl) on Oct. 24; other versions are listed at $69 to $69.99.
Pros: Realistic weight and hand-painted details; reusable bassinet doubles as a carrier and storage.
Cons: $69 is high for a baby doll; most features are a surprise, so you can't pick the exact look; the digital extras need a parent's phone or tablet.
